Welcome to OWB
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

This is a older version of the OWB browser from May 2019.
On a machine with reasonably fast storage (or from RAM disc),
it is quick to load, and is offers a level of Javascript that
is significantly beyond Netsurf etc.

The OWB project has been something of a test bed - don't
be surprised to see other versions of it on the download
site with different features etc.

We have been experimenting to see what gives the best
balance of performance, scrolling, multi-window etc.

This is OWB 1. There is an "OWB2" which is significantly
more capable. However, we decided to use the simpler OWB1
codebase as a proof of concept, and test how to go about
integrating with RISC OS etc.

This version doesn't do multiple windows or RISC OS scroll
bars, but renders differently internally, and uses scroll
wheel to scroll. In some ways it is better than the more
recent build, in others much worse.

We think you'll find it interesting to see the different
builds and iterations we go through.

Running this version
--------------------

Reboot before use.

Double click each of the resources first (!UnixFont,
!UnixFC, !SharedLibs).

Finally run !OrigynWB

Facilities
----------

The browser has basic copy/paste facilities. Use the Copy /
End key on the keyboard to Copy, and Ctrl-V to paste.

Scrolling should work with the scroll wheel on your mouse.

Local files can be read by using file:/// notation. Only
files ending /html will work. See !Run file for example.

Back/forward, refresh, home, zoom in/out work.

Basic Javascript

Problems
--------

Window resize isn't possible.

No scroll bars.

Javascript is not "JIT" so is slow, and somewhat limited.
This will be better in OWB2.

Popup/dropdown menus don't work in forms.

Resolving issues
----------------

If OWB won't load, try running KillSOM obey file.

If it still won't load, try finding !SharedLibs in !Boot.Resources
and moving it out of there into a temporary folder that isn't seen
at startup. Then reboot.

!OWB should be self-contained.

Make sure you're running RISC OS 5.24+ in 16 million colours, and
have at least 1GB of RAM. Yes, you read that right, 1GB RAM.
1920x1080 resolution recommended.

DO NOT RUN AEMULOR.

Reporting problems
------------------

Please don't. We're well aware of the issues, and are working to
make things better all the time. For now, please just enjoy it
for what it is.

If you absolutely can't get it to run at all, then we can try and
help with that. Remember to include machine spec, OS version and
date, and a list of other programs currently running/seen.
